1st John 4:4
Ye are of God little children and have overcome them because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.

This week has been a hard one in concerns over my grandson's decision to identify as transgender. He is only 15 and I worry about the lies he is believing and especially that he wants to take hormone blockers! This verse was a great encouragement. To "cast my burden on the Lord and He will sustain me" (paraphrase) I loved the part where you can translate the verse into all the English versions and I noted that some defined "cast' as "release" or "release the weight of it". That was such an encouragement and i have been releasing the weight of it onto Him!

This verse is the first promise I held onto as my daughter, my precious daughter, at the age of 19 revealed her homosexuality. I was gripped in fear and dismay. To add to that, my husband seemed to embrace her decision and the marriage finally broke up 3 years later when he left the home. I have leaned on my Shepherd through His Word, and through prayer, and have not lost hope. Whether He will deliver my daughter from darkness, I don’t know, but I do know He promises He hears us and I know that in my weakness of fear and loss, He is strong and that He upholds me with His righteous right hand. He gives me grace to see the plight of so many other parents who are suffering in the loss of their child in this way and He gives me the Words to speak as I lift their beloved ones in prayer. Nothing is impossible with God.

This has long been a source of comfort. I love it for many reasons. 1. He is right here with me in this mess and loss. He is not surprised by all these events. He chooses to remain by my side. 2. He is mighty enough to save me. Indeed, there is no one mightier. Although I may feel helpless, I have a mighty Helper. 3. He will save me. He's got a plan. I can raise my eyes and look for His answers coming my way. 4. He is rejoicing over me with gladness. He is not fretting nor distressed at all. His eyes are on me and I bring Him joy. 5. His intent is to quiet me with His love. The state of my heart is most important to Him. He will do this with His lavish love which is given in customized, creative, and abundant channels to me. 6. He exults over me with loud singing. In the midst of all that is going on, He sees me and is wildly cheering for me! 7. These circumstances that are distressing me are not His focus: I am His focus. He is near me, comforting me, encouraging me, and cheering me on... And in a rowdy, exuberant way! He may not change my circumstances, but He will help me, pouring out lavishing love.

I love this verse. It's a reminder to me of how much I need God. I have heard bible teachers say that the "poor in spirit" are those who come to the realization of how much they need God and that their natural state is actually so far from Him. It reminds me of the parable of the tax collector and the pharisee . The tax collector in a true attitude of humility "stood at a distance" and would not even "look up to heaven" and simply said "God have mercy on me, a sinner." I could say that my attitude has been much closer to that of the pharisee who (in the KJV) "prayed thus to himself" about how awesome he was. But a verse that always brings me back is Matthew 5:3 along with John 15:5-"I am the vine and you (Greg) are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."
Matthew 5:3 (KJV)
Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

This promise is meaningful to me because it reminds me to continually put a priority on seeking God and being in His presence.
Psalm 16:11 (KJV)
Thou wilt shew me the path of life in thy presence is fulness of joy at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

This verse comforts me. In my country we always worried about torture and persecution. I be happy to be martyr for Jesus only, never allah!
Matthew 5:10 (KJV)
Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Throughout my life, I have often felt overwhelmed when having to make decisions (whether big or small). The Lord has been so faithful to consistently fulfill His promise to teach me and lovingly direct my steps. Following Him is an adventure, and He's led me to serve Him in various states and different countries. Even in the simple, everyday life tasks, He continues to encourage me and give me wise direction when I need it.
Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go I will guide thee with mine eye.

Exactly 20 years ago today, my wife and I lost our first child, Abbie, to a heart defect when she was only three months old. It was the most emotionally painful event of my life. However, in the midst of those darkest days, God the Father brought comfort and peace. He promised to comfort me in my pain, and he did not disappoint.
2 Cor. 1:3-4 (KJV)
God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from him.

I am in a time of my life where I am spending days alone but then I realized that I am never alone because the Lord has promised to be with me and I can talk with him anytime because he says he will never leave me nor forsake me.
Hebrews 13:5-6 (KJV)
Let your conversation be without covetousness and be content with such things as ye have for he hath said I will never leave thee nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say The Lord is my helper and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

I use to constantly worry that I wouldn't have enough money to keep myself fed and with housing in my retirement years. But this scripture has given me great peace as has the song that was based on it "His Eye is on the Sparrow".
Matthew 6:25-27 (KJV)
Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or drink. God feeds the sparrows, are you not worth more than them?
