Forgiveness is the act of pardoning an offender. In the Bible, the Greek word translated "forgiveness" literally means "to let go," as when a person does not demand payment for a debt. Jesus used this comparison when he taught his followers to pray: "Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is in debt to us." Likewise, in his parable of the unmerciful slave, Jesus equated forgiveness with canceling a debt.?

Mark 11:25
And when ye stand praying forgive if ye have ought against any that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
When we hear Christ's words and act on them, we are building on a foundation that well never be shaken .
Luke 7:47-49
Wherefore I say unto thee Her sins which are many are forgiven for she loved much but to whom little is forgiven the same loveth little And he said unto her Thy sins are forgiven And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves Who is this that forgiveth sins also.
today thy shall be with me in paradise
Luke 23:43
And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
God has fulfilled his promise to his people by raising up Jesus and by granting through him the forgiveness of sins. "Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses".
Acts 13:32-39
And we declare unto you glad tidings how that the promise which was made unto the fathers God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children in that he hath raised up Jesus again as it is also written in the second psalm Thou art my Son this day have I begotten thee And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead now no more to return to corruption he said on this wise I will give you the sure mercies of David Wherefore he saith also in another psalm Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption For David after he had served his own generation by the will of God fell on sleep and was laid unto his fathers and saw corruption But he whom God raised again saw no corruption Be it known unto you therefore men and brethren that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins And by him all that believe are justified from all things from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.
It is God who justifies. Who can successfully accuse someone whom God has declared righteous.
Romans 8:33-34
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God s elect It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth It is Christ that died yea rather that is risen again who is even at the right hand of God who also maketh intercession for us.
When we were dead in our sins, God made us alive with Christ and forgave us all our sins.
Colossians 2:13
And you being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh hath he quickened together with him having forgiven you all trespasses.
Just as we have received God's love, grace, and forgiveness, he now empowers us to offer the same to others.
Philemon 1:17-21
If thou count me therefore a partner receive him as myself If he hath wronged thee or oweth thee ought put that on mine account I Paul have written it with mine own hand I will repay it albeit I do not say to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides Yea brother let me have joy of thee in the Lord refresh my bowels in the Lord Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1st John 1:9
If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The Test of Knowing Christ
1st John 2:1-3
My little children these things write I unto you that ye sin not. And if any man sin we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous And he is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him if we keep his commandments.
